ANPR vs LPR

ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) and LPR (License Plate Recognition) are the same technology — the names just reflect regional preference.

ANPR is the term used in the UK, EU, Australia, and most of Asia. LPR is the US/Canadian term. Both refer to camera systems that read license plates and convert them to text for use in access control, ticketing, and toll collection. In parking specifically, ANPR/LPR is used to identify vehicles entering and leaving a lot — either to open a gate automatically for residents, to clock visitor session start/end times, or to identify violators for ticketing. ParkDwell integrates with both cloud-based ANPR services (e.g., Plate Recognizer) and on-premise camera vendors (Genetec, Milestone) so the same property can mix recognition sources.
